Idea Scratchpad

This provides a forum for TTLUG members to brainstorm and share ideas for improving TTLUG. If you have a suggestion to improve TTLUG, want to propose a project, or expand on one of the points below, simply hit the Edit link and add your idea to this page! It does not have to be immediately feasible, but getting ideas out into the open can trigger discussion and refinement of the ideas.

Moreover, if you think you can handle one of these projects, feel free to take the initiative: throw together a prototype and open up a page on the wiki! Other interested persons can then get involved in helping you accomplish the project.

Ideas!

  • TTLUG distro - a customized distro with various elements that appeal to the Trinidadian user (e.g. wallpapers, icons, perhaps sending local newspaper headlines to the desktop)

Reinvention of the wheel? Do we need another distro?

  • Linux CD compilation - similar to TTCS OSSWIN CD, this is a compilation of various RPMs not found on mainstream distros. Compilations can also be specialized (such as audio-only tools, graphics, security etc.)

Do it online. Sounds a teensy bit of duplication, though. Think this through carefully.

  • Seminar on Linux (perhaps Ubuntu). Can be used as a fund-raising venture ($100 per head), but snacks and lunch will have to be catered for. Can also advertise on the newspapers and Tantie (http://www.trinidiary.com/)

Harrr.

  • TTLUG apparel - caps, t-shirts/polo shirts (screen-printed etc.), pins, mugs, bumper stickers (fund-raising)

Not a bad idea, but from the time you raise the first dollar you will have to account for it.

  • ttlug.org or ttlug.org.tt forwarding email address for TTLUG members

(Sigh. ttlug.org is owned by Ravi R of this group, last I heard. He would be willing to release it to the custody of a group who would hold it in the community's interest). Talk to Patrick Hosein of the TTNIC about the ttlug.org.tt. Not great value for anything .tt at the moment

I'll put some ideas and general ramblings.

  • Social events. Build up the community. Some other groups are a waste of time, some people are to be actively avoided, some will be good allies.

  • Don't suggest something that you won't be willing to do yourself.

  • Gayelle ads. cheap for the exposure.

  • Portable bandwidth. Walk with your Linux ISOs ready to burn at a moment's notice.

  • Serve the users, above the Executive. Learning to herd cats is a pretty good metaphor for administration.

  • Microsoft and its employees will try to discredit and destroy you. They are, at best, your mortal enemy. NEVER a friend. .

Remember, the Linux community is driven by its members, so feel free to contribute your ideas and oomph, and help build the group!
