TTLUG Exec Meeting Outcome

The first executive meeting was held yesterday. I personally found it was quite productive and I'm sure you are all interested in the result of said meeting.

The intentions of the new executive will be driven by the desire to rekindle interest in the TTLUG. We have come up with the following projects thus far and appreciate your thoughts / suggestions / comments.

Meetings

Lead Advocate: Vasudev

Supporting Advocate: Falina

We have found that meetings can have poor attendance if there is a lack of content. For the next TTLUG meeting, a plan is in motion to host a video presentation on a topic of interest.

Vasudev will be dealing with finding a suitable topic and arranging for someone to host said presentation. If you have something of interest and are willing to do a presentation for us please contact Vasudev.

Also, any suggestions on how we can improve the LUG meetings will be appreciated.

Website & Wiki

Lead Advocate: Shivan

Supporting Advocates: Vasudev and Falina

We want to encourage use of the wiki among the membership. The wiki is a good resource to post articles / tutorials and is also our public face to non-members.

Based on this it was suggested the TTLUG website may need a makeover and using drupal we can give our selves more functionality.

The intention is that a more dynamic website will eventually replace the wiki permitting the agreement / interest of the membership.

Shivan is leading the cause for a new website and he will inform the list further of his plans so you can respond giving your thoughts.

If we do undertake this project we will be needing the assistance of the membership in making this happen. We will need developers, content and ideas.

Linux and Open Source Awareness

Lead Advocate: Vasudev

Supporting Advocate: Nissan

I remember this was mentioned some time ago on this list but I don't think anything came out of it.

If anyone remembers what happened to the idea and what were the difficulties in getting it off the ground please let me know.

The project revolves around promoting Linux and Open Source awareness in schools. This will take some co-ordination but I am hoping with the assistance of the LUG members we can make it happen.

We will first need volunteers who will have time to make the presentations at the schools. Presentations will generally include informing the students on the history of linux, why use linux etc

We will also need people who have influence or ties to any school body so we can seek permission and time frames to carry out the exercise.

Contact Falina for your suggestions and comments for this project.

Code of Conduct Proposal For Executive

Lead Advocate: Nissan

One issue that came up is how to ensure the executive remains "open" with the community while at the same time having "limited participant" executive meetings necessary to get things done. To this end Nissan will be working with anyone interested in formulating a "Code of Conduct" for executives.

So far it seems the search has led us to the [|Ubuntu Code Of Conduct For Leaders], which is in the process of being modified according to its Creative Commons License into a draft code for the TTLUG Executive.

Another issue to be solved involves members with experience in Linux and a willingness to help others through the mailing list leaving because of what they considered "politics" in the posts increasing the level of noise in the list beyond their tolerance level.

Part of the Ubuntu's code though is also a Code of Conduct for general membership. The lead advocate (Nissan) for this proposal is hoping that once the Code of Conduct for Leadership is established, that a similar Code of Conduct would be adopted by general members to encourage and foster positive participation in both mailing list and other TTLUG activities.

Other ideas or initiatives

Please feel free to let us know if you have any projects of your own you need our support in.

Contact can be made via the mailing list with any of the executive members.

For anti-spam purposes, most of our direct email addresses are not posted here, however by joining the mailing list one will definitely see our contributions and be able to get our email addresses from there.
